Step 1: Look for old refrigerators to reuse their components in the new one by searching trash shops, local newspaper classified ads, and used stores.

Step 2: Take off the refrigerator’s door to access all of the air-conditioning system’s parts. In order to reuse these cables after removing the door, find the wire that powers the door light and isolate it from other wiring. Remove all of the refrigerator’s additional fans, wiring, and mechanical parts. Exchanger, compressors, and dehumidification are some of the parts.

Step 3: Take the freezer out of the fridge. Since it is not a good idea to have a freezer in a DIY refrigerator, using a chest freezer will save you money and provide you more freezer space. Draw a circle around the refrigerator using a pencil, slightly above a storage area. Use the circular saw to cut all the way around the line to entirely remove the freezer section. Cut away the refrigerator’s exterior, inside, and padding.

Step 4: Create a platform using a 2 by 4 inch stud with the same total area as the bottom surface of the appliance and lift it up to 12 inches from the ground to create the frame for your refrigerator to sit on. This will increase the storage space underneath the fridge and make the level more comfortable. After building the frame, lay the 2 layers of gypsum board on the top of the refrigerator to stop cool air from seeping out the bottom.

Place the insulation sheets on all sides of the fridge, and spray adhesive or hot glue in the storage box. Reclaim the wire for the door light and run it through the insulation. The storage box is ready to change into a refrigerator unit. 

Step 6

Now search for the compressor, evaporator, and thermostat control to fix in the storage box. Several starting kits are available in the market to use for compressors and evaporators. Install the evaporator and the thermostat in the storage compartment. Now mount the thermostat plug on the evaporator unit and seal the hole with putty. 

Step 7

Connect the evaporator with the condensing unit, and the tube connected to the evaporator should be long enough to reach the condensing unit. The evaporator and other components should have a power supply and connect it to the main supply. The power supply will connect the condenser, compressor, evaporator, and thermostat. Now place the veneer face on the refrigerator to complete its look.

Making the refrigerator at home is not an easy task if you don’t have knowledge and skills.
