Step 1

Before installing the outdoor lighting, search for the light fixtures and landscape lighting wires. Use the 10-gauge wire to install the main lines coming from the transformer to where the lights start and install 10 gauge wires between the lights.

Use a flat-nosed shovel to cut the slot and fold it back to bury the wires well—Burry the wires in the ground at least 6 inches deep to avoid getting damaged when irrigated. You can cover the simple low voltage wires with the mulch or soil in the protected plated beds.

Step 2

In the central location near an outdoor GFCI outlet, install the transformer. Mounting it higher on the post will permit you to alter the change in photocell orientation.

Connect the transformer to the 10-gauge main wire by stripping off ¾ inch of insulation by turning the small strands of wires together. Attach with terminals, as the transformer has a built-in timer and photocell, two circuits, switch, and terminals to set the output voltage. 

Step 3

Make the strong base for heavy path and cone lights from plastic pipe. The function of this base is to give strong footing and give housing to the wire connections. And permit you to make the pole extensions of enough length like ½ inch of copper wire. Do not attach the plastic pipe. 

Step 4

Cover the wires with waterproof material and wire connectors. The wire connectors come with a shield or covering on the bottom, and a blob of sealant inside makes the wires weatherproof. If the lights are in the press in connections, cut them by the strip off ½ inch of insulation and mount the connectors. 

Step 5

Install the path light deep enough by digging the hole so the top of the PVC footing should be on the ground level, with the help of torpedo level to make the light pole even and pack the soil surface around the base. To secure the uncovered wire, use aluminum tent stakes in the bedding areas, and cover it with mulch.

Step 6

Test the voltage of each light with the digital voltage meter, as each halogen light should get 10.5 to 12 volts for a smooth and consistent look and to prevent premature burnout. If the connection is weak, it will show extremely low readings, and if the system comes with too many lights on the circuit. Suppose you want to make minor adjustments using voltage controls on the transformers.
