If you have 3 pendant lights but you both have 3 switches then no worries. You can wire 3 pendant lights to one switch. No, you don’t need to call any electrician for it you can do it on your own.
In this article, I am going to teach you to wire 3 pendant lights to one switch. So, let’s start the lesson.
How to Wire 3 Pendant Lights to One Switch
Safety First: Turn off the power at the circuit breaker.
Our first step will be a safety precaution. We all need to just take safety precautions while dealing with electric devices. So in the first step, you have to turn the power source at the circuit breaker.
This step will ensure that no current is passing and you will be safe while dealing with it.
Prepare the Box: Install an electrical box where the switch will be located.
In the second step, you will need to prepare the box. You have to install an electrical box near your pendant lights ceiling or wall. You want to perform this step with mind. If you install the electric box far from the pendant lights then the wire will be enabled to access. So you have to install the electrical box nearly of the pendant lights.
Run the Wire: From the switch box, run a length of electrical wire to each pendant light location.
After installing an electrical box. Next, you have to run a length of electrical wire to the pendant light. The wire will pass the current to your pendant lights and will make it to work.
Switch Wiring: At the switch box, strip the insulation from the wires. Connect the black (hot) wires and attach them to one terminal of the switch.
Inside the switch box, there is 3 to 4 inches of insulation from the wires. Next, you have to locate all the black wires. Once you are located connect them and attach them to the terminal of the switch. This step will make your three pendant lights powered by one switch.
Neutral Connection: Connect all white (neutral) wires using a wire nut.
After connecting the black wires now turns to the white wires. Locate the white wires and connect them. You have to connect the white wires by using a wire nut. This step will make a neutral connection between your pendant lights.
Grounding: Connect all ground wires (usually green or bare). Attach one end to the switch’s ground terminal.
Black wires are connected, white wires are connected now it turns off the ground wires. The ground wire is usually colored green or bare. Start locating the grounding wires once you locate them. Connect them and attach them to one end of the switch ground terminal. This step will establish your grounding system.
- Pendant Wiring: At each pendant light, connect the black wire from the switch to the black wire of the light, the white to white, and the ground to the ground.
Now this step needs proper attention. You have to connect the black wire from your switch to the black wire of the pendant light. After connecting the black wire move towards the white wire. Connect the white switch wire to the white pendant light. In last connect the ground switch light to the ground pendant light.
- Mounting: Secure the pendant lights as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
While performing all the steps you have to secure your pendant lights as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Manufactures instructions are usually written on the back.
- Switch Installation: Install the switch into the electrical box and attach the cover plate.
Install your switch into the electrical box. Don’t forget to attach the cover plate, cover plate will secure your wiring.
- Power On Restore power at the circuit breaker and test the lights.
In the last step, you just have to test your efforts. Turn On the lights if it is working well then you did a great job.
